Death by Doxie x Flickr Finds

Introducing the ever adorable Mocha and Levi!  I think Anne Marie (aka geckoam) takes such beautiful photos of her beloved dachshunds, she seems to really capture their little doxie personalties.  And that ear biting thing - so funny! And so typical!  Ferdi spends most of his day walking around the house with Elfi's ear in his mouth...

Looking through Anne's photostream on Flickr, it's clear her dogs are much better trained than our two, because she also does a lot of holiday and themed photo shoots - we're talking costumes, back drops and props.  They rarely seem to degenerate in to a let's-chew-on-everything-in-sight-including-the-camera-and-photographer fest, like my attempts do.  Her set shots always make me laugh.  Awesome!

[If you haven't already done so, you must check out the 'Ralph' set by serenah photography.  Truly death by doxie genius!]

Death by Doxie x Flickr Finds

Yes, my two doxies are completely adorable but I have to be honest and acknowledge that there are many handsome dachshunds in the world.  And also many people who take much better photographs than I do.  So in Death by Doxie x Flickr Finds I get to share some photos I wish I could have taken of my hounds.

These two - of the gorgeous Lucas and Otto - are from Nicolas Penna.  You can see more of his dog related work here.

ps. One of my all time favourite dachshund photographers is the Brisbane based Serenah Photography,  They have disallowed downloading of their work, so I can't do a blog post on them (well I could, but it would be all words), BUT you absolutely MUST go and have a look at their photos featuring Ralph, the mini dachshund here.  Or at least check out my personal favourites here, here and here (and here. Oh damn it the whole set is a favourite.  They'll make you laugh, they'll make you cry, they'll make you want to rush out and get a dachshund (and a really good camera)...

Flickr Finds: Origami Tessellations

1. Pinwheel Tessellation by Eric Gjerde  2. Square Limpets by Polly Verity
3. Star Puff Tessellation by Pierre Andre  4. Seven Puff Stars by Gila Oren
5. Hex Star by Eric Gjerde  6. L-Triomino Tile by Polly Verity

Origami tessellations are amazingly beautiful don't you think?  I love the repetition of patterns, the unexpected shapes and the interplay of light and dark.

If you like this sort of stuff you should have a look at Eric Gjerde's website which has much information and many resources.  He is also the author of this book which is full of breathtaking (and challenging) tessellations - definitely one for the experienced paper folder.  I would be hopelessly inept if I attempted anything in there, but the 9 year old step-son Joe has been working on his first piece this afternoon and it's coming along nicely!

Polly Verity's website is also worth looking at - her portfolio of paper folding work is beautiful.
